"Hi JuleJim,
I am getting down to the final details on the EU-Friendly investigation. I was curious about your thoughts on the subject.
It appears that I can go through a service called 'Ship Naked' which is a distribution service, an arm of the Game Salute company. This service offers the ability to ship from within the UK to become EU friendly, however, the service ends up being more expensive than my shipping costs + VAT would be.
To cloud the issue further, my base costs of $16 (+$15 shipping international) yields a cost of $31. As I understand the VAT kicks in at about $34 USD (varying based on region). This would imply that I could send base level items through USPS first class to their destination without VAT. In your case, as you chose a $32 pledge level (+15 for shipping) that would yield a VAT of 20% of 47, resulting in about $10 VAT. Of course, I'd rather you keep your pledge at $32 and offer to somehow pay VAT for you.
I'm still awaiting a response from Ship Naked on a minimum order for EU Friendly shipping. But i would be curious to know if you know of any distribution companies that could accomplish the task for less or if a VAT redemption program (I refund whatever you pay in VAT) would offer an EU Friendly turnout.
thanks in advance,
Sean"

Merci ;).

Dernière update:
" Project Update #5: European Backer Stretch Goal - EU Friendly Shipping
Posted by Sean Howard ♥ Like
If you've read the comments section for Shogun Showdown then you know that early on in our campaign we were asked if we were EU friendly. I promised an answer. And so here it is.
The Story
I'm heavily involved in the independent board game community on several forums. I'm friends with many of the game designers whose games you may have come to love over the years. I asked them, "How do I become EU Friendly for shipping? Is there something I can do to assist in this?" The major response that I received was, "Not really. You'd need to ship from within the EU. Do you know anyone in the EU that is registered as an importer?" The answer was sadly, no. No I do not. So then I took a second approach. I went and talked to several distribution services in the EU to determine the cost of doing business with them. I discovered that it is actually cheaper for me to send a package and pay for the VAT + admin fee myself then to use their distribution channels. Weird, right? But even the cost hasn't discouraged me. I want to be EU friendly and I want my EU backers to back knowing that I made this happen for them.
The Plan.
After analyzing many options available to me, I realized that if I can export in bulk, between the costs of shipping (reducing dramatically) and shipping direct from the manufacturer I could fund a partial amount of the import taxes. In fact, I'd even be willing to pay a bit more as well. But that would require at least 100 units being sent to EU. So i am establishing an EU Stretch Goal to run in parallel to existing stretch goals. If we can achieve EU backing of 100 units or more, this project will be EU friendly. But I cannot do this alone.
I need your help.
Please share, tweet, tell your friends, tell your neighbors. I have faith that we can reach 100 unit sales to EU. Also note that 100 units does not mean 100 backers. For levels like Emperor (5 units), Shogun (2 units), Twins (2 units) there are bargains for buying more units.
In each future update I will include the number of units being sent to the EU. At present we have 12 units going to the EU.

Thank you,
-Sean
